Forget those New Year diets, forget those extra long walks with the dog, simply check out the latest Wii game which has promised to lift those pounds that you find hard to lose.  Released in Japan just over one month ago, Wii Fit and the Wii Balance Board are taking the country by story with sales topping the 1 million mark already.

While many people have taken advantage of the physical exercises connected with Wii Golf and Wii Boxing to name but two, where you are actually “involved” in the physical game, the Wii Fit is something total different.  Using the Wii Balance Board to check where you are and what you doing (via an array of sensors) your front room will soon become your very own gym with an array of easy, medium and difficult exercises to give you a workout in your own home.  So exactly how does it work?

The Balance mat is effectively the controller for the Wii Fit game, allowing the machine to know what you are doing whether you are in time and how you are coping.  The array of pre-programmed routines will push you as far as you want to go, ensuring that you receive a useful and ultimately healthy work out.  The game and board are due to be released in the UK in early January with retailers hoping that they will in some way replace the ever popular new year diet routines on offer.

The game has taken off in Japan and it will be interesting to see how the UK market reacts to this new phenomenon.  Will your dog have had its last walk? Will you have been to your last fitness class? The beauty is that nobody really knows how the UK and European markets will react.
