Due to the disc array fault in Barclays in South of England, thousands of customers faced problems in accessing their bank accounts online for consecutive three hours. They were also unable to withdraw their money from cash machines and access telephone bank service. This problem was occurred during the peak period.
Barclays has Hitachi Data Systems for the storage of disc arrays. Its service center is in Gloucester where back office systems are linked into ATM cash machines. No one is sure about the technology which served as root cause for the failure. Barclays is still trying to resolve the problem.

Due to this fault, the customers have reacted furiously while posting comments on web. Some customers said that Barclays has lost £70,000 payment from his company. According to the spokesperson at Barclays, the faulty hardware has been replaced and now all the machines are in working condition. He apologized for the problem and said that the main problem was occurred due the telephonic banking services which temporarily went out off the track and the customers were unable for their money transactions and accounts access.
Some time back, Barclay had the same kind of problem with their web site due to which the users were unable to login and access their accounts. However, the customers have still been able to get their cash withdrawn from the bank branches.
