The Nokia 6120 Classic is a very stylish 3.5G HSDPA phone which looks great in any setting and has the extra added advantage of being so low priced that you can have it for free on most contracts.

Considering the amount of features crammed into this Symbian smartphone running the highly capable S60 platform, it's a fairly lightweight 89g and has a reasonable depth of 15mm. The screen is about as large as you can get in a classic format, it displays images captured by its 2 megapixel camera with remarkable clarity, and it can access 2GB of memory through the microSD slot, while beaming the MP3, m4a and wma tunes to your stereo Bluetooth headphones. Not bad for free!

The camera features a LED photo light and a panorama mode which allows you to take a sequence of photos and have them all glued together to present a panoramic image. When you want to transmit that big image, the HSDPA's 1.8Mbps speeds will whoosh all those pixels away in very short order. Granted, it does have the conventional limitations that any 2 megapixel camera would have when compared to some of the 5 megapixel behemoths on the market today, but you always have to keep asking yourself just how much you want out of a phone you got for nothing!

The phone features all the goodies you'd expect to find on a far more expensive device, such as MP3, m4a, wma and eaac+ playback, and a healthy 216 hours on standby. One of the great features of the 6120 Classic is the positioning of the loudspeaker on the side rather than on the back. This allows you to keep the phone on a tabletop and still hear the sound clearly. Hard to believe that no one thought of this earlier.

The keypad is a pleasure to use, and although the buttons could have been made a bit taller by taking advantage of some of that blank space just south of the screen, they are far more usable than some other recent Nokia models.

The Pop-Port is Dead! Long Live the Mini-USB! Nokia finally woke up and put paid to the Pop-Port which was a poorly thought out feature from hell. The Mini-USB is not only more universal, but handier and more capable in all of its functions.

The 6120 Classic is truly a great value for the pound, especially since you're amortizing the cost of the phone over your contract with nothing up front. It's most surprising feature is its extremely fast 3.5G HSDPA which is usually reserved for its far more expensive cousins. It also has a capable camera, a good media player that sounds great through its side mounted loudspeakers, a fantastic big clear and lovely screen, and all of these great features wrapped up in a very stylish candy bar package that looks and feels great. You can't go wrong with the Nokia 6120 Classic, especially at this price!

Hope this beauty eventually makes it to US shores; even if not, an unlocked version is affordable. image
