After development of DDR2, DDR3 memory module, DDR 333 memory module available in the market rendered as slowest DDR memory module. It has now being used to replaced the slower version of DDR memory module PC1600 and PC 2100. The DDR 333 memory module is designed to work with computer systems having 166MHz speed of front side bus. These memory modules are backward compatible and can thus be used with the systems working with slower memory module. In the event of these memory modules if used in conjunction with slower memory modules, the speed of the system is restricted to the speed of slower module speed even though the DDR 333 memory module can work faster.

With the DDR technology bandwidth achieved, when compared with the conventional SDRAM memory, is doubled without increasing the clock frequency. This high bandwidth is achieved through transferring the data both at rising and falling edges of the clock. DDR memories are packaged both in DIMM and SO DIMM for its usage with desktop, notebook computer and other systems. The DDR 333 DIMM memory module looks similar to SDRAM module; however, it has 184 pins against the 168 pins and has different notches. The DDR memory when compared with SDRAM memory has better and efficient power consumption characteristics.

It is basically due to fact that the memory module draws power at 2.5 volts rather than 3.3 volt. DDR- 333 so named as the effective clock frequency is 333MHz and it is also available in market as DDR PC2700 memory module.
