1GB DDR – Cost effective RAM Module

DDR memory for computer system is available in all capacity with 1GB DDR memory module fast becoming smallest capacity of memory modules being deployed in the computer systems. Increase in capacity of RAM memory in today's computer system or for that matter other systems become absolute necessity and mandatory; firstly due to memory hungry application and secondly to increase the performance of system. It becomes easy to do so with ever reducing memory module cost.

The DDR memory module are developed and designed to work with computer system with different front side bus speed ranging from 100 MHz to 200MHz. However, DDR memory modules slower than that of PC 2700 (166MHz) are now out of production. Since these modules are backward compatible therefore DDR 333 memory modules can be used with the systems already employed older and slower memory module. But, such arrangement restricts the system speed to the speed of existing slower memory modules, although DDR 333 or higher speed memory modules are capable of operating at higher speed.

The DDR memory module offers twice the bandwidth in comparison with SDRAM (SDR) module without actually increasing the clock frequency. The increased bandwidth is speed achieved by transferring the data at both rising and falling edges of the clock. 1GB DDR memory is available in market both in DIMM as well SODIMM packages. The 1GB DDR memory modules are superior in power consumption characteristics with respect to SDRAM modules as it uses power at 2.5 volts against 3.3 volt potential for operation.
